PETITION STARTED TO REINSTATE EMS JOB – A petition has started requesting the Rhome City Council reinstate the EMS/first responder position. The position, which had just been created five months earlier, was cut during approval of the city’s budget on Sept. 12 by a 3-2 vote. Dee Romine, who lives just outside the city, hopes she can convince the council to change their mind and reinstate the position. She plans to present the petition to the city council at the next regular meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Rhome City Hall. LEMON TO SEEK SEVENTH TERM – Wise County Clerk Sherry Coursey Lemon has announced that she will seek a seventh term in office. Lemon will run in next March’s Republican primary. “I would like to thank the citizens/voters of Wise County for their support, and I would appreciate their continued support,” she said. “It would be a privilege and an honor to serve as your County Clerk for another term.” Lemon, a native of Bridgeport, was first elected in 1990. PARENT CAFE – The Wise Coalition for Healthy Children presents its first Parent Cafe 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. HISTORIC DEDICATION – A dedication ceremony for a historical marker placed for the Santa Fe Expedition on U.S. 380 (across from the Greystone Inn in Bridgeport) is 10 a.m. Friday. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at Bridgeport City Hall. According to the Bridgeport Historical Society, the Texas Santa Fe Expedition was a commercial and military expedition to secure the Republic of Texas’ claims to parts of Northern New Mexico for Texas in 1841. The trail crossed the Trinity River near Bridgeport.
RETIREMENT RECEPTION – A farewell for David Turnbow, city of Bridgeport director of utilities for 18 years, is 3-5 p.m. Friday at City Hall.
DINNER FOR WARRIORS – The Wounded Warrior Project provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life. Between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 a group of brave warriors will be participating in a team roping clinic at the NRS Training Center. A dinner of burgers and brats will be served 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1. Cost is $20 per plate and all proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project. Tickets are available at David’s Western Store and NRS. A limited quantity is available.
