NISD RENAMES AG CENTER – The Northwest School Board Tuesday approved renaming the district’s agricultural center the Kelly W. Box Agricultural Science Center, at the recommendation of the selection committee. Box was a former educator in the district, a founding director of the NISD Education Foundation, an organizer of the Northwest FFA Booster Club and president of the Northwest High School FFA Alumni program for 25 years.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The public is invited to attend the monthly meeting of the Wise County Historical Society, Inc. at noon Thursday in the second floor auditorium of the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Lunch will be served, so guests should arrive shortly before noon. The speaker will be Steve Houser representing the Dallas Historic Tree Coalition. CANCER TREATMENT FUNDRAISER – Friday through Sunday, Chili’s in Decatur will be hosting a “Give Back” fundraiser for 18-year-old Brittni Boling who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. If diners bring a coupon announcement being handed out around Wise County, 10 percent of the ticket will be donated to the Bolings.
FIREWORKS FOR FFA – The Decatur FFA is selling fireworks at Fireworks World from now until July 4. It is located eight miles north of Decatur on U.S. 81/287. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to midnight.
JURY TRIAL CANCELED – The jury trial scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday in Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow’s courtroom in Decatur has been canceled.
ADOPTION EVENT – Wise County Animal Shelter is having an adoption event 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today at Marketplace in Decatur. All adoption fees are sponsored, and every dog will receive a free microchip. Call (940) 627-7577 for more information.
CHICO SCHOOL BOARD – The Chico School Board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 tonight in Room 150 of Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road, to consider Superintendent Mike Jones’ recommendation to employ an elementary principal. Jones said Colleen Netterville, who has been principal at the school since the middle of the 2011-2012 school year, has accepted a principal job at another district. Jones added that his recommendation will be for a long-term position and not an interim.
