GREENWOOD POST OFFICE CLOSING – The U.S. Postal Service will implement an “emergency suspension” of the Greenwood Post Office effective at the close of business Friday. According to information provided by the Postal Service, retail services at the office will be “closed until further notice.” Customers will still be able to pick up their mail from Post Office boxes at the location. Postal officials cited “lack of qualified personnel” as the reason for the office’s suspension, which is not a permanent closure, according to a Postal Service news release. Customers may use nearby Post Offices in Slidell and Decatur for stamp purchases, mailing packages and conducting other postal business.
WHISTLEBLOWER TRIAL BEGINS – A civil trial between former assistant principal Joe Palazzolo and Fort Worth ISD began yesterday in 271st District courtroom of Judge John Fostel in Decatur. The case started three years ago when Palazzolo reported wrongful behavior by some administrators at Arlington Heights High School, including falsification of attendance records and discrimination against minority students. Palazzolo was eventually fired. His lawyer, Jason Smith, alleges he was wrongfully fired and should be protected as a whistleblower. In opening statements yesterday, Fort Worth ISD’s attorney argued that Palazzolo was fired for violating district policies, not for whistleblowing. The case is now in the hands of a Wise County jury.
