PLANE CRASH — An airplane crashed right after takeoff into a field north of Bridgeport Municipal Airport just before noon Tuesday. The mishap sent the two occupants of the small Beechcraft to the hospital with minor injuries. Their identities had not been released as of yesterday afternoon. The Texas Department of Public Safety did the initial investigation of the crash. They’ll turn all of their information over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
CHICO SCHOOL BOARD — The Chico School Board will tonight consider employing an elementary principal for the second time in a week following last week’s 3-3 vote, which meant no action on the item. The board will also consider hiring an architect to provide cost estimates for a possible bond package and an agriculture science position. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the Chico Elementary School Cafetorium, 1120 Park Rd.
HOLIDAY CLOSINGS — All Wise County offices will be closed Thursday for the Independence Day holiday. Wise County Development Services will close Thursday and Friday. All of the county dumpsites (Boyd, Chico, Cottondale, Decatur and Slidell) will close Thursday. They will all reopen regular hours on Friday and Saturday.
NO REFUSAL — The no refusal campaign to deter drunk drivers starts today in Wise County and runs through Sunday. If a driver is arrested during this time for driving while intoxicated and won’t willingly provide a breath or blood specimen, a warrant will be sought to obtain a sample of blood and test the blood-alcohol concentration.
SAND FLAT FUNDRAISER — The annual Sand Flat Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser is set for Saturday at the fire station. Regular and silent auctions are on tap for the event featuring a handmade quilt and gift baskets. Donations can be made directly to the Sand Flat Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. BENEFIT PLAYDAY — The Save a Life: Ride a Horse playday and jackpot barrel race in honor of Ashlie Wright is Saturday at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena in Bowie, 579 Jerry Walker Rd. Proceeds benefit Cook Children’s Hospital and LifeGift organ donation centers across Texas. The event will commemoriate the legacy of Wright, a Paradise resident, whose life was cut short by a brain clot in October 2011. As part of the entry fee, each participant is to donate a new Teddy bear that will be given to patients at Cook Children’s. DANCE CAMPS — Registration is open for Princess and Rock Star Dance Camps, July 9–11. The event is provided by the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation and Miss Twister’s Dance Company.
