SATURDAY WRECK VICTIMS IDENTIFIED – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the people involved in Saturday’s multiple vehicle wreck on U.S. 81/287 near the Montague and Wise county line. Amanda Lee Garner, 34, of Springtown was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where she was listed in serious condition yesterday. Kenneth Dewayne Fuller, 45, of Lewisville; Chong Kim, 27, of Irving and Wui Kim, 35, of Irving were all taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Fuller was listed in critical condition at the time of transport, but conditions were not available for the Kims. Lisa Marie Hall, 27, of Boyd was transported in serious condition to Bowie Memorial Hospital. The accident started around 6:35 when two northbound passenger vehicles apparently bumped into each other, sending them both across the median into the southbound lanes where two more vehicles were struck. TOY RUN SETS RECORD – Sunday’s Wise County Toy Run set records with 2,136 motorcycles and almost 3,000 participants who collected toys for local children in need. See more, including a full page of photos, in the midweek Messenger.
YOUTH FAIR TAG IN – Wise County Youth Fair tag in is 8-11 a.m. next Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Wise County Fairgrounds on Farm Road 51 South in Decatur. It was originally scheduled for this Saturday. Tag in is for swine, lambs, goats, non registered beef heifers and non registered boer does (over 3 months of age). Must have scrapie tag in ear.
FUEL FOR A CURE – The Cancer Center at Wise will be collecting Wal-Mart gift cards in increments of $25 to help cancer patients pay for gas. Many patients travel long distances every day. SANTA VISIT RESCHEDULED – Santa might be used to cold and ice, but it still presents a challenge for us in Wise County. Due to the predicted ice storm this weekend, Santa’s visit to Rhome has been rescheduled from this Saturday to next Saturday, Dec. 14. The visit is 5 to 8 p.m., at Rhome Community Center located at 261 School Road. Hot chocolate, punch and cookies will be served. There will also be a free raffle, door prizes and a reading of Christmas stories.
TOYS FOR TOTS – Cici’s Pizza in Decatur will be accepting Toys for Tots through Saturday, Dec. 14. Toys should be new and unwrapped. It’s the fourth year the location is collecting toys. For information call 940-627-6273.
SANTA AT THE STATION – Newark will celebrate the season with Santa at the Station Saturday. The event is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Newark Fire Station. The event will feature craft vendors, a snack bar, coloring station and more. Santa will be available for photos noon-5 p.m. All booth spaces are $25. WISE HOPE ANGEL TREE – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center still has angels available on their angel tree to be adopted. These are children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT – The Bridgeport Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Christmas pageant for boys and girls 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Bridgeport Stage. General entry fee is $20, but there will also be optional categories for best eyes, best smile, best outfit and best personality. Optional categories are $5 each or $20 for all. Age categories are 0-23 months, 2 to 3 years, 4 to 6 years and 7 to 9 years. Winners in each age group will ride in the lighted parade.
