VOTING LIGHT ON FIRST DAY – A total of 41 people cast ballots during the first day of early voting yesterday. Vote totals by location included 6 at Rhome City Hall, 12 at the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center and 23 at the Decatur Civic Center. Early voting for the Nov. 5 general election continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 1.

DECATUR ACCIDENT – As Update was going to press at 8 a.m., Decatur police and fire departments as well as Wise County EMS were responding to a two-vehicle accident at Washburn and Walnut streets in Decatur. Patient information was unavailable, but debris was reported in the roadway.

DEVON TO COMBINE ASSETS WITH CROSSTEX – Devon Energy and Crosstex Energy announced yesterday they will combine pipeline and processing plants in a new venture, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Devon will own a majority of the new enterprise, according to the Star-Telegram story.

HONORING SURVIVORS – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Alvord ISD would like to acknowledge Breast Cancer Survivors at Friday’s varsity football game. Survivors will get to walk through the Bulldog before the game starts and be acknowledged for their courageous battle. If you wish to participate, information and registration form can be found on Alvord ISD’s website at alvordisd.net, or you can pick up a form at any of the campus offices. COSTUME PARADE – Bridgeport Main Street’s Suit Up and Say Boo Halloween parade is 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. It will begin at the Bridgeport Stage and proceed down Halsell Street. For more information, call 940-683-3404.

ALVORD HAUNTED HOUSE – Alvord Project Graduation 2014 will hold a haunted house at the old middle school, located behind Alvord Express. Dates and times are 10 p.m.-midnight Oct. 25; 7 p.m.-midnight Oct. 26; and 7-11 p.m. Oct. 31.

BLOOD DRIVE – The Decatur Rotary Club will host a Carter BloodCare blood drive noon-6 p.m. Wednesday at CVS Pharmacy in Decatur.

GOLF TO BENEFIT GOLF – The Decatur High School Golf Booster Club will host a tournament Nov. 23 at The Club at Runaway Bay. Entry fee is $400 per four-person team. FUNERAL for Shelly Lynne Minyard, 49, of Mineral Wells is 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home with burial at Chico Cemetery. Family visitation is 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.

FUNERAL for Carl Ray Jones, 82, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
