MORE IN-SCHOOL OFFICERS – Wise County commissioners Monday approved a cooperative agreement with the Alvord, Chico, Paradise and Slidell school districts to provide for two additional school resource officers. The Sheriff’s Office currently has three SROs, and two more will be hired, meaning each of the four participating campuses will have an officer assigned to it. As part of the agreement, the school districts are splitting the cost of the two new officers with the county. The county’s share to finish out this fiscal year will be $40,000. The new SROs will start in July and be trained before school starts. Read more in the midweek Wise County Messenger on news stands tomorrow.

SUPERINTENDENT GETS RAISE – Northwest ISD Superintendent Dr. Karen Rue will receive the 2 percent salary increase approved for the rest of staff for the upcoming fiscal year, as recommended by the school board Monday evening. Her $247,200 salary will increase by $4,944. In late January, Rue’s contract was extended through June 2017.

WINE AND ART – Wise Regional Health Foundation’s An Evening Under the Stars wine-tasting and art show fundraiser is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the hospital’s east campus. There will be heavy appetizers, a chocolate fountain, live music, silent auction and the work of local artists. Cost is $55 a ticket or two for $100. Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the cardiac program. For tickets, call Michelle Stone at (940) 626-1384.

SENIOR LUNCH – The Decatur Senior Citizens Center invites all seniors age 55 and older to a luncheon at noon Thursday, June 20. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller. Call (940) 627-2926 for more information.

NAME SUGGESTIONS – Submit nominations to rename the Northwest ISD Agricultural Sciences Learning Center through Friday at www.nisdtx.org/schoolnames or by calling (817) 215-0171. The name suggestions will be reviewed by a naming selection committee and recommended to the board at the June 25 meeting.

CHICO CHAMBER LUNCH – The Chico Chamber of Commerce Luncheon is noon today at the Chico Senior Citizen Building on the square. Cost is $10. Guest speaker is Terri Johnson.

DIG INTO READING – The Bridgeport Public Library Summer Reading Program is held 2:30 p.m. every Wednesday beginning June 12. The free program is for children who have completed grades K-5 and is designed to keep up their reading skills over the summer. Children will enjoy crafts, special activities and programs. Parents may register their children at the library, 2159 Tenth Street or by calling (940) 683-3450.

YOUTH BAKE SALE – Cuba Road Church Youth Group will have a Bake Sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Brookshire’s in Bridgeport to raise money to attend MFUGE youth camp.

GRAVESIDE service for Leona Victoria “Vicky” Pryor, 76, of Decatur is 10 a.m. today at Bethel Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Ruth Nell Woolaver, 82, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
