WISE REGIONAL ONLY BIDDER FOR NTCH – At the close of business Monday, Wise Regional Health System’s $20 million offer was the only bid on the table in the U.S. District Bankruptcy Court in Fort Worth for North Texas Community Hospital in Bridgeport. A mountain of details remain to be worked out, but Monday’s action means Wise Regional will likely be declared the “successor” to the Bridgeport facility at a sale hearing scheduled for Feb. 4. The transaction is expected to close in mid-March, and the hospital in Bridgeport, which opened in 2008 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2012, will remain open as part of the Wise Regional Health System.

RED FLAG WARNING – A red flag warning is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. today for Wise County. Strong west winds are expected behind a cold front which will act more as a dryline. Winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with higher gusts can be expected. Humidity levels are expected to drop to between 17 and 25 percent with temperatures in the mid- to upper-70s. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, according to the National Weather Service. The county’s burn ban will be in effect.

STORMS LIKELY – The National Weather Service is predicting an 80 percent chance of rain today. Scattered thunderstorms are expected along a cold front that will move through the area. Temperatures will be cooler tonight with an overnight low of 37.

STAAR MEETING – A STAAR/EOC informational meeting for parents is 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Northwest High School Performing Arts Center. A student’s score on the STAAR End-of-Course exam could determine their graduation plan and whether or not they are eligible for a four-year university. Each meeting will share information regarding graduation requirements for students in eighth through tenth grades.

DAD AND DAUGHTER DANCE – Tickets are still available for the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Dad and Daughter Dance Saturday at the Bridgeport Community Center. This year’s theme is “A Night Out on The Town.” Tickets are on sale at Bridgeport City Hall for $15 per couple, $5 for additional child. MOM GROUP – Wise Moms, a mommy-and-me group for mothers and their preschoolers (infants to age 5) is meeting 10 a.m. to noon Friday at The River Church, 1901 S. Trinity, in Decatur. The group provides a place for Wise County moms to connect while their kids enjoy on-site activities. SERVICE for David Fennell, 82, of Rhome is pending at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Ruby Weyerts, 81, of Decatur, formerly of Enid, Okla., will be held in Enid at a later date with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
