YOUNG MILLIONAIRE — Decatur’s Tuf Cooper became the youngest cowboy to reach $1 million in career earnings this past weekend when he won the third round of tie-down roping at the San Angelo Rodeo. He reached the mark in 23 years and 22 days, breaking the previous record of 23 years and 9 months set by Ty Murray in 1993. Cooper now has $1,008,168 in earnings in his professional rodeo career.
CHAMBER LUNCHEON — The Paradise Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon is noon Monday, March 4, at the Rowe Building on Texas 114. Lunch is $10 a plate and will be catered by Sagebrush Café. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER — All churches in Wise County are invited to participate in the World Day of Prayer at 10 a.m. Friday at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1305 Deer Park Road, in Decatur. A reception will follow. The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of different traditions who come together to observe a day of prayer each year. PASTURE MANAGEMENT — The Wise County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting a Pasture Management Workshop Wednesday, March 6, at the Boyd Community Center. Registration is at 10:30 a.m., and the program is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost for the workshop is $10, which includes two hours of general continuing education units for pesticide applicator license holders. Topics include managing and renovating summer pastures during a drought and pasture weed management. Speakers are Paul Baumann, professor and Extension weed specialist, and Larry Redmon, professor and Extension forage specialist. MEDICARE BENEFITS MEETING — The Bridgeport Public Library will host an informational meeting on Medicare Benefits Information and the Coverage Options Available at 10:30 a.m. today. OPENING DAY CEREMONY AND SUPPER — Meet the 2013 Alvord High School softball and baseball teams and thank the donors of their new facility at an Opening Day Ceremony and Supper at 6 tonight at the baseball and softball fields at AHS. A meal of brisket sandwiches or hot dogs plus chips and a drink will be served for $5. New T-shirts will be sold and a Home Run Derby will be held for boys and girls in three age divisions.
PAJAMA STORYTIME — The Decatur Public Library will host a pajama storytime 6 p.m. today. The event will include bedtime stories, songs, a craft and hot cocoa. Pajamas are optional but encouraged. Call the library at (940) 393-0290 for more information.
FUN RUN — The first PTO Family Fun Run at Carson Elementary is 8 a.m. Saturday. Early registration ends Thursday, and cost is $15 for adults and $10 for youth.
