U.S. 380 WRECK – As Update was going to press just before 8 a.m., Wise County Medics and the Decatur Fire Department had been dispatched to a major accident on U.S. 380 about a mile east of County Road 2315 east of Decatur. Initial reports indicated one person had been ejected into the median of the road, and the accident had caused a large fuel leak. No other information was immediately available. As information does become available, we will post it at WCMessenger.com.

HEAT ADVISORY – Wise County is included in a heat advisory today through 7 p.m. Wednesday. Temperatures today and tomorrow are expected to top out between 100 and 106 degrees with heat index values of 105 to 110.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – The second Wise County Build Team meeting for the 2013 Habitat For Humanity Build-A-Home Project in Decatur is noon Thursday in the Character Builders Room at First United Methodist Church in Decatur. SOCCER SIGN-UPS – Bridgeport Youth Association will have soccer registration 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays Aug. 10 and 17, at the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave. Registration fee is $60.

FISHING TOURNAMENT – Devon Energy will host its 5th Annual “Keepin it Reel” Bass Fishing Tournament and Fundraiser for United Way Saturday at Eagle Mountain Lake. Check-in begins at 5 a.m. at West Bay Marina and RV Park, and the entry fee is $125 per two-person team. WATERMELON FESTIVAL – The Alvord Watermelon Festival and Barbecue Cook-off is Friday and Saturday. The Mike Watts Memorial Scholarship Fish Fry is 6 p.m. Friday. That night also features a 42 tournament, washer tournament and Kolton Moore. Saturday’s events include a pageant at 10 a.m. and vendors all day. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT – Sissies Elite Basketball will hold a Back to School 3-on-3 Basketball Bash Friday at Bridgeport Middle School. Cost is $100 per team for ages 10 and up. BRIDGEPORT CITY COUNCIL – Parks and airport talk dominate the relatively short agenda for the Bridgeport City Council meeting at 7 tonight. After proclaiming Aug. 11 as Underground Damage Prevention Day and swearing in newly appointed Jimmy Meyers to the council, elected officials will consider an amendment to airport regulations regarding residency in the hangars. Officials will also consider a dedication instrument and aviation easement to proceed with the runway extension project at the city’s airport. They will consider extending an agreement with Wise County Pee Wee Football Association for use of the fields at Lawdwin Park and will discuss amending the rules and regulations at the park, including those related to pets and smoking, both of which are currently allowed.

CHICO CITY COUNCIL – Budget talk is included on tonight’s Chico City Council agenda. Other items up for discussion and action include amending Park Board bylaws, renewal of medical insurance and monthly staff reports. The meeting is at 7 at city hall.

FUNERALS – Service for Jimmie Jo Woolaver, 89, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL service for Jackie Sparkman, 53, of Bridgeport will be held at a later date. Jones Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Mable Jackson, 93, of Decatur is pending at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

GRAVESIDE service for Robert L. “Bob” Smith Jr., 69, of Plano is 10 a.m. Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Martin Rice, 85, of Decatur is 10 a.m. today at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel with burial at Alvord Cemetery.

FUNERAL for David Maxey, 80, of Decatur is 10 a.m. today at Cornerstone Baptist Church with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for J.M. Brooks, 77, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Decatur with burial at Thomas Cemetery. Family visitation is 5-7 tonight at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
