PRECINCT 4 COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE – David Stewart of Runaway Bay announced yesterday that he will run for Precinct 4 county commissioner in the March Republican primary. Stewart has worked in Precinct 4 for almost five years. Last week, Gaylord Kennedy of Bridgeport announced he will run for Precinct 4 commissioner, also as a Republican. REYNOLDS TO RUN FOR PRECINCT 1 JP – Wise County Sheriff’s investigator Josh Reynolds has announced his intention to run for Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace. He has been a Wise County resident for 38 years with 16 years of experience in law enforcement, according to a news release from the Wise County Republican Party. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow earlier announced she is seeking a fifth term.
HUDSON TO SEEK FIFTH TERM – Wise County Treasurer Katherine Hudson has announced her intention to seek re-election for a fifth term. The Republican is a Bridgeport resident.
RAIN CHANCES GOOD – The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is predicting a 70 percent chance of rain tonight with an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms tomorrow.
ROAD REOPENS – Old Reunion Road in Decatur has reopened as of this morning. The road had been closed to replace a one-lane bridge.
BACK TO SCHOOL BOOK SALE – Chico Public Library will host a Back to School Book Sale 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today through Saturday in the library book room located at Chico City Hall. Prices are as follows: hardcover $1; DVDs $2; VHS, music CDs and audio cassettes 50 cents; and paperbacks 25 cents. Discount pricing by the bag and box. All proceeds benefit the library. The library is also selling raffle tickets for a queen size Texas Flag Afghan and a quilt made by the Chico Homemaking class of 1955. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6, and all proceeds benefit the library. The drawing will be held at Chico Fest Saturday, Oct. 19. BHS REUNION – A Bridgeport High School reunion for classes of 1950-1970 is 10 a.m. Saturday at the BHS Commons. Anyone who attended BHS during those years is invited.
FISH FRY – The Decatur Band Booster Fish Fry is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the old intermediate school cafeteria. Dinner is $8 per plate at the door.
MINERAL PROGRAM – The Extension Livestock and Forage Committee will host a beef cattle mineral supplement program 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin St. The featured speaker is Dr. Jimmy L. FOOD WORKSHOP – A 4-H Food Project Workshop is 5:30 p.m. today at Weatherford College Wise County between Decatur and Bridgeport on U.S. 380. This is a time for first-time food and nutrition project participants to learn about the 4-H Food Show, Food Challenge and Nutrition Quiz Bowl.
