PARADISE HOUSE FIRE – A Paradise home was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Paradise, Bridgeport and Decatur fire departments responded to the blaze in the 300 block of Private Road 3360 west of Paradise. The first units to arrive shortly after 3:30 p.m. reported flames and smoke already engulfing the double-wide mobile home. Wise County Fire Marshal Chuck Beard said one person was in the home sleeping when the fire broke out. Smoke detectors woke him up and he was able to exit the home safely. Two other family members were not home at the time. Beard said the home was a total loss, and the family was not able to salvage anything inside. Red Cross was called to provide assistance to the family. Beard said the cause is still under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious.
SCHOOL BOARD RACE YET TO BE DECIDED – When the final vote totals were released Tuesday night, Bill Mundy had one more vote than Ben Sanders for Place 6 on the Paradise School Board, 93-92. Mundy and Sanders were two of five candidates for Place 6. The result of the provisional ballot won’t be known until the ballot board meets next Wednesday. “Because of the provisional ballot that has to be processed, it is impossible to declare a winner at this time,” Noble said in an email yesterday.
