DEVON PURCHASE – Devon Energy Corp. has purchased oil producing assets and other property in the Eagle Ford fields in South Texas from GeoSouthern Energy for $6 billion. Devon said the assets purchased include current production of 53,000 barrels of oil per day and 82,000 acres with at least 1,200 undrilled locations. The purchase includes land in DeWitt and Lavaca counties. Devon said the assets are expected to reach a peak production rate of about 140,000 barrels of oil per day. Analysts said the purchase would give Devon a better balance between oil and natural gas production.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD – First Baptist Church of Decatur is a drop off center for Operation Christmas Child. Boxes may be dropped off at the church, located at 1200 W. Preskitt, 1-7 p.m. today, 4-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-noon Monday.

PARENTING SEMINAR – Parent Cafe is 4 p.m. Sunday at Decatur’s First United Methodist Church Wesley Center. The topic is positive discipline strategies.

ANGELS AVAILABLE – Bridgeport Spirit of Christmas Angel Trees are available in Bridgeport at The Community Bank, Citibank, and Bridgeport High School. Donations will be accepted from Nov. 22 through Dec. 13. All donations will be used to provide vouchers for local families. These vouchers will allow parents to purchase Christmas gifts for their children.

SMOKED MEAT BENEFIT – Wise Electric will be smoking 50 briskets and 50 hams available for pick up by 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27. Cost is $50 for briskets and $40 for hams. All proceeds benefit local charities. Call 940-627-2167 to reserve.

SANTA COPS – The Decatur Police Department Santa Cops applications are available at the Decatur Police Department. The deadline to return applications is Sunday, December 1. Donations of new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the police department through Monday, Dec. 16. For more information, call Ashly DoByns at 940-393-0300.

JOINT HISTORICAL MEETING – The public in invited to the annual Joint Historical Society Meeting at 7 tonight at the Wise County Heritage Museum, 1602 S. Trinity St. in Decatur. The meeting will be in the second floor G.C. Rann Little Theater and is sponsored by the Wise County, Bridgeport and Paradise Historical Societies. Program theme this year will center around “Wise County-From Beginning to the Present.” Refreshments will be served after the program.

SOCIETY BUSINESS MEETING – The monthly business meeting of the Wise County Historical Society, Inc. is noon today at the Wise County Heritage Museum. Lunch will be served, so RSVP to 940-627-5586.

THANKSGIVING DINNER – Decatur Senior Citizens will host a Thanksgiving dinner at noon today at their center, 1200 N. Miller, in Decatur. If you would like to bring a dessert or side dish, please feel free. There is no charge, and all senior citizens are welcome.

CLOSING FOR LUNCH – All Wise County offices will be closed 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. today for the annual county employee luncheon.

FUNERAL for Clarence “Sonny” Keith, 80, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. tomorrow at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
