NEW LIBRARIAN – The City of Decatur has hired a new director for its public library. Patricia Peters starts Monday, replacing Cecilia Barham who resigned in October. Peters comes to Decatur from Lewisville Public Library and has more than 20 years experience in library services. She received her masters of library science from the University of North Texas and has a master of arts in English literature. “We are thrilled to welcome Patricia to our community,” said City Manager Brett Shannon. “Our library is an important part of so many people’s daily lives here in Decatur, and Patricia’s professional knowledge and work experiences will help keep this valuable institution moving forward successfully.”

TEXT NOTIFICATIONS – Mayor J.D. Clark is using an app, Remind 101, to communicate with the citizens of Chico via text. Those who sign up for the free service will receive reminders about council meetings, emergency information and weather-related closings. METER MEETING – The City of Bridgeport will host an information meeting for the public about the new AMI system 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Bridgeport City Hall, 900 Thompson St.

RODEO TICKETS – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce has a limited number of tickets left for the 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 performance of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. This is the final night of the rodeo and is a sold out show with the exception of these tickets. They are $25 each and can be purchased at the Chamber office, 308 W. Main. NEW HOURS – The City of Lake Bridgeport has new office hours – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information, call (940) 683-2700.

CASA ORIENTATION – CASA of Wise and Jack Counties will hold an orientation session 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the CASA office at 300 E. Pecan St. in Decatur for anyone interested in participating in its Spring Training Academy. Anyone interested in training to become an advocate for children who are victims of abuse and neglect or who just wants to know more about the work of CASA in the community is invited. Applications and training materials will be available. If you are interested but cannot attend the orientation, contact Jan Files at the CASA office to request an application and training materials. Call (940) 627-7535. The training is free. The Spring Training Academy will hold classes on Tuesday nights from Jan. 22-March 26. A meal will be provided prior to each class at 5:30 p.m. with the training to follow from 6-9.

CLEARING OUT – The National Weather Service is calling for only a slight chance of rain in Wise County this morning before the clouds give way to mostly sunny skies with a high near 59. Yesterday’s rainfall totals included 1 inch in Greenwood, 0.96 in Decatur, 0.8 in Aurora, 0.74 in Rhome, 0.7 in Bridgeport, 0.6 in Alvord and 0.5 in Chico.

FUNERALS – Service for Joe McKnight, 58, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Friday at the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Wilson Prairie Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

FUNERAL for Alice Irene Hill, 92, of Alvord is 10 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Alvord with burial at Alvord Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

VISITATION for Liane M. Szmanski, 86, of Decatur is 2-4 p.m. today at Coker-Hawkins.

MEMORIAL graveside service for Samantha Jo McNorton, 28, of Sunset is 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

SERVICES are pending for Alma Mosley, 91, and Ted Qualls, 62, both of Decatur at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for Clifford Stanford, 87, of Azle is 2 p.m. Friday at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd with burial at Dido Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Joey Deaton, 50, of Granbury is pending at Christian-Hawkins.

GRAVESIDE service for Jherrie Lamar Logan, 77, of Justin is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Justin Cemetery. DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton is handling arrangements.
