JURY DELIBERATIONS ENTER SECOND DAY — A day of deliberation was not enough for a Wise County jury in an emotional case concerning the deaths of four teenagers in a traffic wreck on July 23, 2011. The jury started deliberating after closing statements at 9:35 a.m. and continued until 6:30 p.m. yesterday, and 12 failed to reach a sentence for Danny Nalley. The 19-year-old from Fort Worth pleaded guilty to four counts of criminally negligent homicide Tuesday for the death of four of his teenage friends killed in a traffic accident on FM 730 early in the morning after returning home from a party in the LBJ Grasslands. Nalley was the driver. The jury will reconvene this morning to continue deliberation. He faces 180 days to two years in state jail or probation or a combination of the two and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

HIGH SCHOOL RODEO — The Decatur High School Rodeo Team will host a 3-day high school rodeo event March 1-3 at the Wise County Sheriff Posse Grounds. Fifty area high schools will compete. The team is raffling off a longhorn heifer (13 months old) — check website for details (www.decaturrodeoteam.com). The event will also include a silent auction, concessions and calf scramble. DRAWING CLASS — Decatur Public Library presents “Learn to Draw 101,” a basic art drawing class with artist Alexandra “Sasha” DuPuis. Classes will be held Thursdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m., beginning Feb. 14. Space is limited, so call (940) 393-0290 or stop in at the library to register. This 10-week class is open to adults ages 18 and up.

STORM SIREN TEST — The Decatur Police Department will test storm sirens at noon today, weather permitting.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT — The monthly support group for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or related dementia is 7 tonight in the the Wise Regional Health System west campus board room. For more information, call (940) 627-6888.

BLOOD DRIVE — Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday at Wal-Mart in Decatur.

PARENT SURVEY — To gather feedback from parents, Northwest ISD (NISD) has launched a comprehensive survey asking parents to share their thoughts regarding campus climate, safety and behavior, communications, instructional programs and support services. This feedback will provide district officials with information designed to identify strengths and areas that need improvement in the schools and district. The survey is available through Feb. 18 in English and Spanish. Responses will be confidential. Parents can go to the NISD website and access the survey by logging on to the Your Voice portal at www.nisdtx.org/yourvoice. Parents may also request a paper survey by calling (817) 215-0171.

GED TEST — The GED Test will be administered by the Bridgeport ISD Feb. 18-19. You must pre-register before Feb. 14 to take the test. To register go to 1101 17th Street in Bridgeport.

YOUTH SIGN UPS — Boyd Youth Association will hold baseball, softball, T-ball and soccer sign ups at the middle school gym Feb. 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16. REMEMBER NOT TO FORGET — The North Central Texas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association meets 10 a.m.-noon today at the Decatur Civic Center. Guest speaker Bert Hayslip with the University of North Texas will discuss factors that influence a person’s ability to remember and specific techniques for memory improvement. There is no charge, but registration is strongly encouraged by calling 800-272-3900.
