WINTER STORM WARNING – Wise County is included in a winter storm warning from noon today to 6 p.m. Friday. Rain is expected to begin falling this morning, and as temperatures drop, the rain is expected to transition into freezing rain. The temperature is expected to drop from the current temperature of 32 to 28 degrees by 5 p.m. Up to a 0.1 of an inch of ice accumulation is possible during the day, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. The freezing rain is expected to continue into the night as temperatures drop to around 22 degrees while wind chill values will make it feel like it is between 10 and 17 degrees. New ice accumulation up to 0.6 of an inch is possible. On Friday, the chance of freezing rain continues as the temperature is expected to top out around 25 degrees with wind chill values between 8 and 13 degrees. Friday night’s low is expected to drop to 16 with wind chill values of 3 to 10 degrees. A chance of sleet and freezing rain continues into Saturday and Sunday, and high temperatures are not expected to exceed the freezing mark again until Tuesday when the high reaches 34. SUSPECT LEADS INVESTIGATORS TO BODY – Garland Paul Allen, a suspect in a murder case out of Altus, Okla., who was captured in Wise County Monday, waived extradition before Judge Melton Cude Wednesday morning and was taken to Oklahoma by Texas Ranger Jim Holland and Wise County Sheriff’s Office Investigators Clint Cadell and James Mayo. He led them to Tom Steed Reservoir near Altus where officers dug up a blanket and skeletal remains believed to be his ex-wife. “He confessed to burying her but told officers that her death was accidental after he and his ex-wife fought and she fell and hit her head on an anvil in the yard of their home,” Walker said. Allen was turned over to the Altus Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. The skeletal remains were sent to a crime lab for analysis. The death is believed to have taken place around May 8, 2001.
WNFR STARTS TODAY – Five Decatur rodeo professionals will take the stage at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo that starts today in Las Vegas. Trevor Brazile is seeking an unprecedented 11th all-around title and 19th world championship as he competes in tie-down roping and team roping. His wife, Shada Brazile, is competing in barrel racing for the first time at the WNFR, and Tuf Cooper, who is on pace to win his third straight title, will compete in tie-down roping. Tuf’s older brother, Clif Cooper, is also competing in tie-down, and steer wrestler K.C. Jones is making his seventh appearance at the WNFR. The rodeo action will air live every night at 9 on Great American Country (GAC).
SENIOR ANGELS - Angels are now available on the angel tree at Senior Care in Bridgeport, 2108 15th St. Gifts should be returned by Dec. 20.
MUSICAL – Decatur High School Theatre Department presents the musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” Dec. 6, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the DHS Theater. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $7 for students.
BOOK CLUB – The Bridgeport Public Library’s Read-A-Book Club will discuss “Christmas at the Mysterious Bookshop” by Otto Penzler at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the library’s Jackson Room.
VETERANS GROUP BREAKFAST – The Wise County Veterans Group will meet for its weekly breakfast at the Decatur Civic Center 8 a.m. Saturday. They will be voting in officers for 2014. All Wise County Veterans are invited.
AUXILIARY HOLIDAY SALE – The Wise Regional Health System Decatur Auxiliary will have a post-Holiday Store sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday in the hospital lobby. The raffle drawing for the Choctaw Getaway – which includes a one-night stay in a luxurious room, dinner and a spa day for two – will be at 2 p.m. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased from an auxiliary member or at the hospital gift shop.
KICKOFF POSTPONED – The Relay For Life of Wise County kickoff originally scheduled for today has been postponed to a later date due to the inclement weather expected tonight.
SUPPORT GROUP RESCHEDULED – The monthly support group for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or related dementia has been moved from tonight to 7 p.m. next Thursday, Dec. 12, in the board room at the west campus of Wise Regional Health System in Decatur due to potential inclement weather. YOUTH FAIR TAG IN – Wise County Youth Fair tag in is 8-11 a.m. next Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Wise County Fairgrounds on Farm Road 51 South in Decatur. It was originally scheduled for this Saturday. Tag in is for swine, lambs, goats, non registered beef heifers and non registered boer does (over 3 months of age). Must have scrapie tag in ear.
FUNERALS – Service for Clayton Jayden Palmer, the infant son of Hunter and Emily Palmer of Runaway Bay, is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
MEMORIAL service for Debra Ann Jones, 54, of Chico is 11 a.m. today at Shepherd House in Chico. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.
MEMORIAL service for Lynna Sledge, 77, of Paradise has been canceled and will be held at a later date. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
