DISD APPROVES BUDGET, TAX RATE – The Decatur School Board Tuesday approved a $29,528,351 general fund budget and a $1.30 per $100 valuation tax rate. The budget includes a third school resource officer. The district has had two officers in the past, one at the high school and one at the middle school. The new officer will be assigned to the three elementary schools. The budget also includes a 3 percent pay raise for teachers. “It is a balanced budget, but, boy, is it tight,” said Gary Micinski, DISD deputy superintendent.
TRIPLE DIGIT FORECAST – We’re expected to hit triple digit temperatures today with an expected high of 101. The forecast doesn’t bring much relief with highs of 102, 102, 100 and 99 predicted through the Labor Day weekend. Wise County is also included in the Metroplex ozone action day, meaning conditions are favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution.
TASTE OF WISE – The third annual Taste of Wise is 5:30-8:30 tonight at Decatur Civic Center. The free event includes samplings of food and drink offered by local businesses, live entertainment and door prizes every 10 minutes. GOLD CARD – Northwest ISD provides senior citizens living in the district the opportunity to be part of the district’s Gold Card program. In addition to a free annual luncheon, Gold Card members receive free entry into district-sponsored events, performances and athletic competitions. BULLDOG MANIA – Meet the 2013 Alvord Bulldogs football and cross country teams and cheerleaders before the JV game tonight at Bulldog Stadium. A burger meal will be served for $5 beginning at 4:30 p.m., followed by the program at 5 p.m. The JV team takes on Millsap at 6 p.m.

COOKING CLASS – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is hosting a Dinner Tonight Cooking School Thursday, Sept. 5, at Weatherford College Wise County. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so participants can visit exhibits and vendors. Space is still available for vendors. The cooking school begins at 6 p.m. and will include the demonstration of three easy and nutritious menus that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less.
