Multi-family home destroyed by fire

A multi-family home at 500 West Walnut in DecaturĀ  was ravaged by an early morning fire that was still blazing at 9 a.m. Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said at least four apartments on the second floor of the frame structure were rented. “We’ve accounted for all of them,” Hoskins said. Because of the intense heat, Decatur firefighters called for help from Alvord, Bridgeport, Boyd, Paradise, Rhome and Krum fire departments. Wise County EMS set up a firefighter rehabilitation center near the fire. No injuries have been reported. Walnut Street is blocked off and motorists are urged to use Main Street to get to the downtown area. The fire is about 5 blocks west of the Wise County Courthouse.
