EARLY VOTING BEGINS TODAY – Early voting in the Nov. 5 general election begins today and runs 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 21-25 and Oct. 28-Nov. 1, at three Wise County locations: the Decatur Civic Center, 2010 W. U.S. 380; Rhome City Hall, 105 1st St.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St. Voters will consider nine proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Paradise ISD voters’ ballots will also include an 8-cent tax increase, a $3.25 million bond election and two spots on the board of trustees. Place 6 is currently held by Scott Eisen, who is seeking re-election. He is joined by Ben Sanders, Doug Thomas, DeAnn Hamilton and Bill Mundy on the ballot. Ronnie W. CITIZEN OF THE YEAR – Carey Williams was named 2013 Citizen of the Year at Saturday night’s Decatur Chamber of Commerce banquet. The Decatur native is involved in numerous local programs including the Economic Development Corp., Look Local campaign, United Way and various Chamber events, just to name a few. In 2010, Williams started the “Put Yo Money Where Yo Mouth Is” washer tournament at the Wise County Old Settlers Reunion, and he helped plan the Weatherford College Wise County gala fundraiser in 2012. Williams has worked for James Wood Motors for 31 years and is a 45-year member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur. “Everyone sets goals and being born and raised here, it’s a very special award,” Williams said. “All of my mentors have received this award. FALL FESTIVAL – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host Spooktacular 2013 Fall Festival 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport Community Center. The free event includes candy, games, rock wall, inflatable, euro bungee, popcorn, cotton candy, balloon animals and face-painting. There will be magic shows at 5:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and a costume contest at 6:15 p.m.

SOCIETY TO HONOR MUSEUM FOUNDERS – The Bridgeport Historical Society will recognize the founders of the Bridgeport Heritage Museum at their lunch meeting at 11:30 a.m. today at Weatherford College Wise County. After lunch, the founders will be introduced and recognized for their contributions. During the program, they will share their thoughts about the museum’s inception.
4-H MEETING – Decatur 4-H Club will meet at 6 tonight at the Extension office in Decatur.
PARADISE CITY COUNCIL – The Paradise City Council tonight will hear about the progress on a dollar store and the installation of a cell tower that is expected to drastically improve cell phone service in the city. In regard to a future sewer system, the council will consider an agreement with Paradise ISD to provide the billing and collection of sewer usage fees. They will also schedule a special meeting to further discuss the sewer system. The meeting is 6 p.m. at city hall.
CHICO SCHOOL BOARD – The Chico School Board will hold a public hearing at 6:30 tonight on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report. The district received a “superior achievement” rating. Also, in its regular meeting, the board will hear a report on costs and services provided by the Region 11 Service Center and consider a resolution calling all of the district’s outstanding Series 2001 bonds for redemption prior to maturity. The meeting is in Room 150 at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road.
