VETERANS DAY EVENTS – A Veterans Day ceremony will be held 11 a.m. today at Wise County Veterans Park in Decatur. Chico Mayor J.D. Clark will be the speaker. Boyd Elementary School will honor veterans during a special Veterans Day Rise and Shine assembly at 7:45 a.m. today. Bridgeport High School will have a Veterans Day Program 9 a.m. today in the gym honoring the graduates of BHS who have served and are serving in the military. The public is invited to attend.
CLAYTON RUNS TO TITLE – Decatur senior Taylor Clayton held off the charge of Burkburnett’s Kody Anderson to capture the Class 3A individual title Saturday at the University Interscholastic League cross country championships in Round Rock. Clayton covered the 5K course in 16 minutes and .08 seconds. Clayton led the Eagles to an eighth-place finish as a team with 188 points. The Decatur Lady Eagles finished as the Class 3A runner-up with 91 points. College Station won the state title with 58. Nicole Neighbors led Decatur, turning in a 10th-place finish on the 3,200-meter course in 12:05.07. In Class 2A, Paradise finished fifth with 127 points led by Emily Brinson, who took 36th in 12:47.77. Alvord’s Lacey Watkins finished 31st in 12:45.06. Northwest’s Kellee McCann took seventh in the 5A race, running 18:28.74 on the 5K course.
EAGLES ADVANCE – The Decatur Lady Eagles won their area round playoff game against Bonham Friday 25-14, 25-17, 25-12. They will play Argyle in the regional quarterfinal Tuesday. The Boyd Lady Jackets season came to an end Saturday afternoon in the area round of the playoffs. Boyd lost to Callisburg in three, 19-25, 11-25, 18-25.
SCV MEETING – The Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Joe Goodwin will present a program on fracking.
TRIAL CANCELED – The jury trial scheduled for Wednesday in Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace court in Boyd has been canceled.
WISE COUNTY PLAY – Northwest ISD students and community members will perform “Far and Wide,” an original play produced by NISD, which tells the story of a young family who makes Wise County their home. Performances are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Chisholm Trail Middle School (583 FM 3433 in Rhome). Salt Creek, a Southern bluegrass band, will perform prior at 6:15 p.m. The performance is free, but tickets are required as seating is limited. For more information, call 817-215-0159.

COMMISSIONERS MEET TOMORROW – Although Wise County commissioners usually meet on Mondays, they will meet tomorrow due to the Veterans Day holiday. Members of the Fairgrounds Committee will give a report on the continued transition planning with the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse and other facility users, and commissioners will discuss partnering with the North Central Texas Council of Governments for county usage of special weather equipment. It includes radars that make high resolution observations at low altitudes in a way that benefits public safety. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in the third-floor conference room of the courthouse in Decatur, and it’s open to the public.
