BOIL WATER NOTICE – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Boyd to notify water customers to boil their water prior to consumption due to a water main repair. To accommodate the boil order, Boyd ISD will have bottled water as well as other drinks available on a limited basis. Parents are encouraged to send bottled drinks with their student. Hand sanitizer stations will be set up at all restrooms for hand washing purposes. As for meals, alternate meals will be prepared and served for students for both breakfast and lunch that do not require water for preparation. The city of Boyd is due to test the water again today.

FIRST DAY OF YOUTH FAIR – The annual Wise County Youth Fair kicks off today at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Decatur. Today’s events include the broiler and breeding poultry show at 9 a.m. at the Posse Grounds and the horse show at 8:30 at the NRS Arena, 309 CR 4228, off U.S. 81/287 South outside Decatur. The horse show runs all day today and Tuesday. The Longhorn show is 1 p.m. at the Posse Grounds. The Queen’s Contest is at 7 p.m. at Decatur High School.

NORTHWEST NAMESAKES – At its meeting tonight, the Northwest School Board will consider a committee’s recommendations to name the district’s newest two schools V.R. Eaton High School (V.R. was the father of Messenger publisher Roy J. Eaton) and Wayne A. Cox Elementary. Trustees convene at 6 for a closed session preceding the public meeting at the Northwest ISD Administration Building. The board will also name a principal for Samuel Beck Elementary in Trophy Club. Its current principal, Deborah McCune, will lead the opening of elementary school No. 17.

SENIOR LUNCH – Senior citizens 55 and older are invited to a pot roast lunch with all the fixings at noon Thursday at the Decatur Senior Center located at 1200 N. Miller Street. For information call (940) 627-2926.

BOYD ISD PHONE SYSTEM – The Boyd school district upgraded technology over spring break. As a result, their phone system may be down intermittently today. If you are unable to get a call through to your child’s campus, call (940) 255-1383 and your message will be relayed to the appropriate campus.

RELAY FOR LIFE – Relay For Life teams will meet 7:30 tonight at Candlewood Suites in Decatur to talk about luminarias and other important event information. For more information, call Stephanie at (940) 393-3165.

WISE DEMOCRATS – Wise County Democrats will meet 7 tonight at the Wise County Courthouse second-floor courtroom to nominate members to committee positions.

SOCIETY MEETING – The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church Wesley Center, 200 E. Main St. in Decatur. Club Member Steve Hilliard will give the program on florescent minerals, including a colorful display of how they glow under different lighting. Bring your favorite rocks and minerals to the meeting.

CHICO SCHOOL BOARD – Chico School Board members could get an estimate on future bond items at tonight’s meeting. Among the items on the agenda is a presentation by Buford-Thompson Co., the construction firm that is expected to provide initial cost estimates for potential bond items. The board will also hear the monthly principals’ reports, and consider the 2013-2014 school calendar, workers compensation insurance proposals and the Wise County Sheriff’s proposal to employ an additional school resource officer. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in Room 150 at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Rd.

FUNERAL for Roy Dennis Dick, 83, of Runaway Bay is 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. A second service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Mennonite Church in Hydro, Okla., with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, Okla. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
