STOLEN PROPERTY RECOVERED – Tony Paulini, 36, of Bryan was arrested last week after an investigation revealed approximately $218,000 in stolen goods on his property in the 900 block of County Road 1380 near Alvord. Investigators recovered three trailers, three John Deere tractors, five John Deere Gators, 1,300 gallons of diesel fuel and a 34-foot-long travel trailer that Paulini was using as a second home. The property was allegedly stolen from people and businesses in Wise, Harris, Denton, Cooke, Brazos, Johnson and Montague counties and from at least one location in Louisiana. STORMY MORNING – Thunderstorms rolled through the county beginning in the 6 a.m. hour today bringing heavy rain and high winds. As of 7:30 a.m., rainfall totals included 1.45 inches in Alvord and 0.59 in Decatur. A 40 percent chance of rain remains in the forecast for the rest of the day.
FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER – East Wise Fire Department will host a fundraiser 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the New Fairview City Hall. There will be food and activities such as a dunking booth and hot air balloon. It will also feature live music from local talent. All proceeds will benefit the East Wise/New Fairview Fire Department.
COURT DEPARTMENT CLOSING – The Wise County Clerk court department only will be closed 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday for training and will reopen on Wednesday at 8 a.m. The property records and vitals department will be open for business as usual.
RELAY WRAP-UP – A wrap-up meeting for teams that participated in this year’s Relay For Life of Wise County is 6:30 tonight at Candlewood Suites in Decatur. SAFETY SEAT CHECKUP – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service-Wise County will host a free child safety seat checkup event 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. today at the Decatur Middle School Parking Lot, 1201 W. Thompson Street. Certified technicians will be on hand to conduct the inspections and offer advice to parents/caregivers to ensure safety and compliance. GREENWOOD POST OFFICE CLOSING – The U.S. Postal Service implemented an “emergency suspension” of the Greenwood Post Office as of close of business last Friday. Retail services at the office will be “closed until further notice.” Customers will still be able to pick up their mail from Post Office boxes at the location. Customers may use nearby Post Offices in Slidell and Decatur for stamp purchases, mailing packages and conducting other postal business.
PARADISE CITY COUNCIL – Paradise City Council will hear an update on future sewer system and waterline extension options that have been explored for several months at its meeting 6 tonight at City Hall. They will also consider revising the city’s water tap fee schedule, installing blow-off valves or a fire hydrant behind City Hall and a citizen’s request for a water line. The council will also continue its discussion on hiring a part-time city clerk and will schedule a budget workshop.
CHICO SCHOOL BOARD – The Chico School Board tonight will consider appointing an interim middle school principal following Maury Martin’s promotion to the federal programs director/district testing coordinator/No Child Left Behind compliance position. The board will also hear a report of the district’s preliminary STAAR results among other agenda items. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in Room 150 at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road.
SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society will host speakers Dr. Greg Moore and Dr. Toni Klonniger-Moore at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
