HUPP WINS PBR EVENT – Jordan Hupp of Cheyenne, Wyo., won the 10th annual J.W. Hart PBR Challenge in Decatur Saturday night. The bull rider took home $5,104. Wise County’s Mike Lee took second, winning $4,779, and Jory Markiss of Longmont, Colo., won third and $4,169. Executives from PBR and the Military Warriors Support Foundation were on hand for the presentation of $1.25 million worth of homes to wounded war veterans, the single largest donation in PBR history, and WC Challenger Charities founder, Roy Young, was also honored during the event. WEEKEND RAINFALL – A round of early Sunday morning storms brought rain to parts of Wise County including 1.91 inches in Rhome, 0.68 in Decatur and 0.3 in Greenwood.
GOLF TOURNAMENT – The 9th Annual Firecracker Scramble benefiting the Runaway Bay Volunteer Fire Department is Saturday, June 29, at The Club at Runaway Bay. Registration is 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and the four-person scramble play begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Women and men of all skill levels may register either as a four-person team or individually and be placed on a team. Entry fee is $50 and includes green and cart. Prizes will be awarded in each flight and other specialty contests including longest putt and bulls eye. There will be mulligans and raffles available and free food on the course. SCV MEETING – The Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wesley Center of the First Methodist Church in Decatur. The program will be presented by Precinct 1 Constable Larry Short.

NORTHWEST SCHOOL BOARD – Superintendent Karen Rue’s annual evaluation will be conducted, and possibly acted upon during open session, at the Northwest ISD board meeting tonight at the Administration Building, 2001 Texan Drive. It begins with the evaluation in closed session at 6 p.m, followed by the regular, public meeting during which the board will discuss the focus list for a community-based accountability system, as outlined by a committee of Northwest students, parents, teachers and administrators. Trustees will also nominate a candidate for the TASB Board of Directors, review the district long-range technology plan and accept public-purpose gifts.
JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION – The Eastside Alumni Association is holding their annual Juneteenth celebration 2-10 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Ida Lou Willis Park in Decatur. Hamburgers and cold drinks will be served. A bake sale will benefit the Eastside Alumni Scholarship fund. There will also be a bounce house for kids.
