NOT SO HOT THIS WEEK – The temperature officially hit 100 degrees for the first time this year at the Decatur Municipal Airport during the afternoon Friday. The 100-degree temperatures have disappeared from the forecast, at least for the next several days. In fact, the National Weather Service says North Texas could see record low temperatures for the first week of July this week. Today’s high is expected to be around 85, and the high temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-to-upper 80s to near 90 for the rest of the week.
ALZHEIMER’S MEETING CHANGED – The regular meeting of the Wise County Alzheimer’s Support Group will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of the Wise Regional Health System West Campus. JURY TRIAL RESCHEDULED – The jury trial scheduled for tomorrow in Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mandy Hays’ courtroom has been moved to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9.
SOLDIER RUN – A Childress-to-Austin run designed to honor Texas soldiers who have fallen in battle will pass through Decatur. The Run for Texas Silent Heroes, sponsored by Iron Soldiers Inc., started yesterday and will arrive here between 5 and 6 p.m. today. A brief ceremony will be held at Wise County Veterans Memorial Park honoring the families of fallen heroes, and Iron Soldiers will perform a battlefield cross ceremony. Mayor Martin Woodruff will speak, and the local Honor Guard will also participate. The run ends July 4 in Austin. The public is invited to the local ceremony.
DINOSAUR STORYTIME – The Decatur Public Library Summer Reading Club presents dinosaur storytime at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Children are invited to join Miss Abby and Miss Pat for dinosaur stories, songs and more. The Summer Reading Club is a free program open to children of all ages. CHAMBER LUNCHEON – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon is noon today at City Hall. Lunch, catered by Subway of Paradise, will be $10 a plate. Every business in attendance will have the opportunity to speak about their business for two minutes.
SAND FLAT FUNDRAISER – The annual Sand Flat Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser is set for Saturday at the fire station.
