CHILD FOUND ALONE – Wise County sheriff’s deputies have child endangerment warrants against the parents of a 2-year old boy found alone in a room heated by a space heater Saturday afternoon on County Road 4797. Deputies had received a welfare concern call at the house and looked in a back window and saw the child in a crib. He was taken to Wise Regional Health System, and deputies called child protection services. Sheriff David Walker said Sunday that the parents contacted officers later Saturday night. Walker said CPS workers took “temporary custody” of the child and his 5-year-old brother Sunday. Walker said that no arrests had been made as of late Sunday afternoon.
LARGE SCALE POWER OUTAGE – Electricity customers from Tarrant County up to Wichita Falls lost power Sunday afternoon. Sabrina Easley with Oncor said a piece of damaged equipment affected a 138,000-volt transmission line, which carries electricity from the generation source to the substations. The line also serves some Brazos Electric customers and co-ops as well, including Wise Electric Co-op. Reports of power outages began around 4 p.m., and power was restored to the last customer by 6:20, Easley said. About 10,000 meters were affected in Wise County, Easley said.
DECATUR FIREFIGHTERS HONORED – Ryan Davis was honored as the Decatur Firefighter-of-the-Year Saturday night at the department’s annual honors banquet at the Decatur Civic Center. Earlier Davis had received a community service award for spending 1,492 volunteer hours at the department in the past year. Rookie-of-the-Year honors went to Jason Daniel and the fire officer of the year award went to Captain Chris Caster. Kyle Stephens, who has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 25 years, was promoted to Administrative Services Captain, and honored with the department’s exemplary customer service award. Keller Fire Chief David Jones was keynote speaker for the event. Bridgeport and Jacksboro firefighters provided protection for the city during the banquet.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS – The Wise County Animal Shelter will be closed today for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It will reopen 8 a.m. Tuesday. All administrative county offices will be closed today as well as the Decatur dumpsite. The Boyd, Chico, and Cottondale dumpsites will close on Wednesday.
