TRIPLE DIGITS THIS WEEK – This week is shaping up to be the hottest so far this year with high temperatures of 101 forecast today through Thursday. Last month, Decatur hit 100 degrees twice, on July 11 and 13, according to weather watcher Doyle Green. Rainfall for July was actually above normal with a total of 3.6 inches, more than an inch above the average July rainfall of 2.37 inches. No rain is in the forecast this week, however, until a slight chance of rain enters the forecast Friday.

BOOK SIGNING – Author Julia Heaberlin will speak and sign copies of her latest thriller – “Lie Still” – at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Decatur Public Library. Copies of the book will be available for purchase that evening with proceeds benefiting the Decatur Library Foundation. The event is free and open to the public. GED TESTING – Bridgeport ISD will administer the GED test for the last time Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 19-20. Pre-register by Thursday, Aug. 15. For information, visit www.bridgeportisd.net then click on “Community” then click on “GED information,” or stop by the north side of 1101 17th St. in Bridgeport after Aug. 13. Weatherford College Wise County will administer the test beginning in September.

BLOOD DRIVE – Chico Public Library is hosting a blood drive on the square in Chico 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today.

BIKE RALLY – The Eighter From Decatur Bike Rally benefiting Raquel’s Wings For Life is Saturday, Sept. 7. There will be an 8-mile, 25-mile and 55-mile ride, all of which will leave from Decatur Municipal Airport at 8 a.m. Registration opens at 6 a.m. that day or you can register online at www.active.com. COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL OPENING – A ribbon cutting ceremony for Shears of Steele Cosmetology Salon is 6 p.m. Tuesday at James M. Steele Accelerated High School (606 N. Walnut St., in Roanoke). The cosmetology academy provides first-hand experiences in hair, nails and skincare as well as business and entrepreneurship trainings.

CHAMBER LUNCHEON – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon is noon today at City Hall. Lisa Walton with Subway will speak. Lunch, catered by Jorge’s Restaurant, is $10 a plate. Donations for door prizes are appreciated.

BOOSTER CLUB MEETING – The Paradise Booster Club will meet at 6 tonight at the Paradise High School cafeteria.
