TEACHER ARRESTED FOR CHILD PORN – Former Carl E. Schluter Elementary School music teacher Adron Ming has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography. The 35-year-old teacher in the Northwest school district turned himself in Aug. 9, two days after resigning from the school. In a statement released Friday by Northwest ISD, the district said it “is not aware of any incidents or allegations involving students or the school. The district was notified about the investigation by the Fort Worth Police Department on Aug. 6, and Mr. Ming was immediately placed on administrative leave. On Aug. 7, the district received notification of his resignation.” Ming was previously honored as an “exemplar educator” in 2012 by the district.
SOCIETY MEETING – The Wise County Fossil, Rock, and Mineral Society will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur, 201 Main St. Dr. Arthur B. Busbey III, geology program coordinator at the School of Geology, Energy, and Environment at TCU, will be the guest speaker. His topic will be: Late Cretaceous Paleontology in Big Bend National Park and Work on the Rosillos Mountain Ranch in Brewster County, Texas. Anyone interested in rockhounding is invited. EAGLES TICKETS – 2013 Decatur Eagles Football season ticket renewals end at noon Thursday. Tickets are on sale 8:30 a.m.-noon week days at the DHS ticket office on the second level. Reserved seats will go on sale to the public at the Graham scrimmage at 7 p.m. Thursday.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – Historian and author Dr. J’Nell Pate will discuss her most recent book, “Arsenal of Defense: Fort Worth’s Military Legacy” at the Bridgeport Historical Society meeting at 12:15 p.m. today in the lecture hall on the Weatherford College Wise County campus. Pate will also take questions from the audience.
BIKE RALLY – The Eighter From Decatur Bike Rally benefiting Raquel’s Wings For Life is Saturday, Sept. 7. There will be an 8-mile, 25-mile and 55-mile ride, all of which will leave from Decatur Municipal Airport at 8 a.m. Registration opens at 6 a.m. that day or you can register online at www.active.com. RANCHERS GATHERING – Texas AgriLife Extension will host a Ranchers Gathering Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Doors open at 5:30, and dinner begins at 6:15. John Bradshaw from Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association will discuss “Ranch Theft and How to Take Precautions From It.” Bary Clower will finish the evening with some “cowboy comedy.” Ag vendor booths cost $10. SUPERHERO RUN – A Superhero 5K run/walk benefiting Court Appointed Special Advocates of Wise and Jack Counties is Saturday beginning at Fit-N-Wise in Decatur. HAIRCUTS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES – The Hair Shop in Bridgeport is giving away free haircuts and backpacks with school supplies while they last for grades 1-6 Aug. 17-31. Coupons can be picked up at the enrollment fair at Bridgeport High School or at The Hair Shop. Donations of school supplies are also being accepted.
PARADISE CITY COUNCIL – The Paradise city council will call an election for three places at its meeting tonight. In 2012, the council opted to move its election to the fall in response to Senate Bill 100. In addition to routine items like reports from the economic development corp., planning and zoning commission and water department, officials will also consider purchasing a mower attachment for the tractor. The meeting, which begins at 6 p.m at City Hall, is open to the public.

FUNERAL for James G. Davis, 73, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Cowboy Church with burial at Azleland Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.
