1 KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK – A Bridgeport man was killed in a one-vehicle rollover near Lake Bridgeport Saturday afternoon. Andrew Chase Walker, 21, was southbound on Farm Road 2952, approaching a curve in the road, when he veered off the roadway, caught the edge of pavement and overcorrected, losing control of the Dodge truck he was driving. The pick-up rolled sideways before splintering a telephone pole and coming to a rest in a thicket of brush. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. Lake Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department, Wise County medics and sheriff’s deputies and state troopers responded. Service for Walker is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Jim Ned Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

COLLISION SERIOUSLY INJURES 1 – An Alvord woman was seriously injured when the passenger car she was driving was struck broadside by an SUV on U.S. 81/287 south of Alvord Sunday evening. Janet Simmons, 55, was transported by ground ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries. Investigators said she was in and out of consciousness when Alvord volunteer firefighters extricated her from the vehicle, where she had become trapped after the collision. According to investigators, it appears Simmons pulled out of the Navigator Truck Stop parking lot in front of an Expedition traveling southbound in the outside lane. The driver, Alan Frazier, 47, of Irving, attempted to move into the inside lane, but the passenger car also continued into that lane, where it was t-boned by the SUV. The impact caused the SUV to roll and land upside down in the median, where Simmons’ car also came to rest. Frazier and his wife, the SUV’s only other occupant, sustained minor scrapes and bruises. In addition to Alvord Volunteer Fire Department, state troopers and Wise County medics and sheriff’s deputies also responded to the wreck, which was reported around 9:30 p.m. A helicopter ambulance was called to the scene but was unable to fly due to the storms moving into the area.
