UPDATE

Manhunt on northeast of Chico

Wise County sheriff’s deputies are searching for three men northeast of Chico. The trio fled after their pickup crashed in the midst of a pursuit Sunday morning in the 2000 block of County Road 1560. Captain Kevin Benton said the pickup was pulling a trailer believed to be stolen and during the pursuit, the driver plowed through a fence and into a pasture.¬†

The pickup almost made it to the tree line when it hit a culvert, catching fire, which quickly spread to the grass and the two patrol vehicles in pursuit. Chico Assistant Fire Chief John Hobbs said one deputy suffered burns to his left arm and was transported to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur. In addition to Chico,  Alvord, Crafton and Decatur firefighters worked to extinguish the vehicles and the grass fire.

Benton said a helicopter is in the air to aid with the search, and they have requested tracking dogs. One man was described over the police scanner as a “large, white male, shirtless with lots of tattoos.”
