A man was arrested by state troopers Thursday night after leading them in a high-speed pursuit and crashing on the west side of Runaway Bay.

Around 5:30 p.m. a reckless driver on a black motorcycle was reported on U.S. 380 in Decatur. Department of Public Safety Trooper Philip Redmon said he got behind the motorcycle on 380 near the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to pull him over. The motorcycle did not stop but instead continued west on 380 at a high rate of speed.

Redmon couldn’t confirm the speed, but other officers said over the police scanner that the motorcycle was traveling more than 100 miles per hour. As the chase approached the Runaway Bay city limit, a Bay officer joined the pursuit.

The motorcycle crashed on the west side of Runaway Bay, but the rider was not injured. He fled on foot and was quickly apprehended by the Bay officer. He was examined by Wise County medics.

Redmon didn’t release the rider’s name at the scene but said he was arrested for evading an officer.
