An inmate supervisor with Wise County Sheriff’s Office was arrested today and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault of a child.
The sheriff’s office received a complaint on Tuesday, Jan. 29, that Jeff Shurbet, an inmate work crew supervisor, allegedly assaulted a child multiple times.
Sheriff David Walker immediately suspended Shurbet without pay and removed him from county property pending the investigation. Due to the allegation being made against a Sheriff’s Office employee, Walker contacted Texas Ranger Jim Holland, and requested he begin a criminal investigation.
Holland conducted numerous interviews and gathered physical evidence. Holland then interviewed Shurbet who confessed to the allegations and was subsequently charged with eight felony sexual offenses.
Shurbet was arrested and booked into the Wise County Jail for seven counts of sexual sssault of a child, each second degree felonies, and one charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony.
Justice of the Peace Terrie Johnson set bond at $75,000 for each second degree felony and $120,000 on the first degree felony charge. The case is still under investigation.
