WOMAN INJURED IN JUMP FROM PICKUP — A 42-year-old woman was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth after jumping out of a moving vehicle around 6:30 Thursday evening on Farm Road 730 south of Boyd. The woman, whose name was not released, sustained head trauma and road rash, Wise County deputies on the scene said. Witnesses say the white Dodge pickup was northbound on FM 730 near W.N. Woody Road, traveling at a rate of about 50 miles per hour, when the woman jumped out of the car for unknown reasons. Traffic was shut down in both directions of FM 730 for more than 30 minutes while the helicopter ambulance landed in a nearby field.
FIRST RESPONDER POSITION ELIMINATED — By a narrow vote of 3-2 Rhome city council removed the paid EMS/first responder position. Council member Jo Ann Wilson argued that the city couldn’t afford the position. “I recommend the EMS position be eliminate because we can’t afford it, not because Robert (Pratt) isn’t doing a good job,” she said. The council just approved creation of the position earlier this year, and Pratt, Rhome’s fire chief, was hired in May. The position was created to help the city respond to emergency calls during weekdays. The position cost the city $35,000 plus benefits out of the $2.65 million budget.
