COAL MINERS – Bridgeport Coal Miners Heritage Festival is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday on Halsell Street. Events include the Battle of the Badge Wise County law enforcement donut-eating contest, a chili cook-off, college football viewing, hot dog eating contest, Pitchin’ Coals washer tournament, live entertainment from 1-5 p.m., downtown merchant specials and sidewalk sales, pet parade and contest, vendors and food booths, wine tasting and living history demonstrations by the Bridgeport Heritage Museum. The Fall Festival Kids Zone includes pumpkin painting and contest, pumpkin obstacle course, pumpkin bowling, jump houses, rock climbing wall, Pumpkin Patch pageant and a toddler area. FOOTBALL SEASON REACHES MIDPOINT – Tonight’s high school football games include Decatur at Alvarado, Fossil Ridge at Northwest, Paradise at Whitesboro, Boyd at Pilot Point and Bridgeport at Graham. RAIN, COOLER WEATHER PREDICTED – It’s expected to be another warm day, with a high temperature topping out around 90 degrees this afternoon. But things are expected to change with the arrival of a cold front this evening. Along with cooler temperatures, the forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain tonight and 30 percent tomorrow. The high tomorrow is expected to only reach 68, and Saturday’s overnight low could drop as low as the mid-40s.
ALVORD FISH FRY – Alvord Fire Department is holding its annual Fish Fry Fundraiser at 5 p.m. Saturday at Alvord High School. Raffle tickets are available for chances to win a $300 Wal-Mart gift card or a Smith and Wesson AR15. The event will also include a live auction and silent auction.
BRIDGEPORT GOLF TOURNAMENT – The newly formed Bridgeport Women’s Club will host a golf tournament benefiting Bridgeport Spirit of Christmas Sunday at Bridgeport Country Club. Registration is at noon with a shotgun start for the 3-man, 18-hole scramble at 1 p.m. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded for each flight, and there will be raffles. Participation costs are $1,000 for title sponsor (two teams and free mulligans per golfer); $500 for gift sponsor (one team); $300 team sponsor (one team); and $100 for sponsor a child. HARVEST BAZAAR – The First United Methodist Church in Decatur will hold a Harvest Bazaar 4-7 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature a craft store, country kitchen, live and silent auctions, chili cook-off and face painting for kids. RODEO – The Decatur Rodeo Team is hosting its rodeo at 8 tonight, 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Posse Grounds in Decatur. There will be a concession stand, silent auction, vendors and a raffle for a longhorn steer. You can purchase raffle tickets at the rodeo or in advance from any rodeo team member for $5 each or 5 for $20. A calf and steer scramble will be held each day. A dance will be held 9 p.m.-midnight Saturday at the rodeo. Saturday is also “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night for Breast Cancer Awareness. Tickets at the gate are $5 per person. Chili’s in Decatur is also donating 15 percent of each ticket at their location to the team this weekend. The group, along with the Denton Bach Players, will present the Christmas portions of Handel’s “Messiah” at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the church.
