BATTLE OF BIG SANDY – The biggest rivalry game in Wise County is tonight as the Decatur Eagles host the Bridgeport Bulls in the annual Battle of Big Sandy. The Wise County Messenger will provide live blogging from the game at our Friday night scores page, WCMessenger.com/scores. Other local high school football games include Boyd at Ponder, Callisburg at Paradise, Jacksboro at Alvord and Chico at Collinsville. All games begin at 7:30. Full game recaps will be featured in the weekend Wise County Messenger on newsstands Saturday.
WEEKEND RAIN CHANCES – The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is calling for a 20 percent chance of rain tonight, but the chances increase to 60 percent Saturday.
EARLY VOTING – The first week of early voting for the Nov. 5 election wraps up today. Early voting runs 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 1 at three Wise County locations: the Decatur Civic Center, 2010 W. U.S. 380; Rhome City Hall, 105 1st St.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.
HORSE AUCTION – Wise County Animal Shelter will auction a horse at noon tomorrow at the shelter.
RALLY – Overpasses for America, formerly Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment, will have a rally 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Courthouse Square in Decatur.
TRICK OR TREAT – The Wise County Public Safety Fall Festival is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Decatur Civic Center. Meet local emergency personnel and enjoy food, music and games. Admission is free.
FALL FUN – The 4th Annual Fall Festival at Senior Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur is 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. There will be a live band, bounce house, games, cotton candy, hot dogs and face painting.
HALLOWEEN FUN – Governor’s Ridge in Decatur will host a fall festival 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be free hot dogs and chips, bounce house, games, trick or treating, apple bobbing, face painting, cotton candy and prizes.
FALL FESTIVAL – The Hills Nursing and Rehab Fall Festival is 2-4 p.m. Saturday at 201 E. Thompson in Decatur. There will be a bounce house, hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, games, prizes, patrol car, fire truck with Sparky and indoor trick or treating.
FALL PLAY – The Northwest High School theatre department presents “The Trojan Woman” by Eurpides on 7 p.m. today and tomorrow and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Vernon Solomon Performing Arts Center (2301 Texan Drive, Justin, 76247). Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
SPOOKTACULAR – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host Spooktacular 2013 Fall Festival 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport Community Center. The free event includes candy, games, rock wall, inflatable, euro bungee, popcorn, cotton candy, balloon animals and face-painting. There will be magic shows at 5:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and a costume contest at 6:15 p.m.
ALVORD HAUNTED HOUSE – Alvord Project Graduation 2014 will hold a haunted house at the old middle school, located behind Alvord Express. Dates and times are 10 p.m.-midnight tonight; 7 p.m.-midnight Saturday; and 7-11 p.m. Oct. 31.
HAUNTED TRAIL – The Springtown Middle School dance team will sponsor a Haunted Trail 7:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday at 230 Spring Valley Road in Paradise. Entry fee is $7. Concessions will be sold for $1. Money from the event will pay for the SMS dance team’s trip to preform at Disney World in December.
SLIDELL FALL FESTIVAL – Slidell ISD is hosting their annual Fall Festival tonight at the high school. Doors open at 5 p.m., ticket sales begin at 5:30 and booths are open from 6-8. Raffle items will be awarded at 8:15. Concession stand will be available.
CLASS REUNION – The Bridgeport High School Class of 1978 is having its 35th reunion 3-10 p.m. Saturday at the home of Lizann Stockdale Bridges, 16 Robinhood Lane in Bridgeport. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and a lawn chair.
SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Decatur Spirit of Christmas applications become available for pickup today at the Decatur Public Library. Applications must be returned no later than Nov. 7. It’s the first time they are being distributed at the library. For more information on Decatur Spirit of Christmas contact local financial institutions.
FUNERALS – Memorial service for Sterling Ray Kenyon, Jr., 49, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. today in the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
MEMORIAL service for Richard (Bill) Nichols, 81, formerly of Bridgeport, is 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home.
FUNERAL for Donald Henry Brown, 99, of Decatur is 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.
FUNERAL for Lee Roy McKeever, 73, of Chico is 3 p.m. Sunday at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 3 in Alvord. Family visitation is 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.
MEMORIAL service for Jennie Garrett Conditt, 53, formerly of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield. Memorial committal service is 1 p.m. Nov. 2 at West Bridgeport Cemetery. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
