BIG DAY FOR EAGLE SPORTS – One Decatur High School team will be playing in the state tournament this weekend while another team seeks an area championship. The DHS volleyball team will play Big Spring at 1 p.m. today at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland in the state semifinal game. If they win, they would play in the state championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Wise County Messenger will post updates on our Facebook page, www.My-Wise.com. The football team will play Wilmer-Hutchins at 7:30 tonight at Mustang-Panther Stadium in Grapevine in an area round game. The Messenger will provide live blogging of the game at WCMessenger.com/scores. The game will also be broadcast online at kntxradio.com. Tickets for the football game are available at all Decatur campus offices. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. All tickets are $7 at the gate. Decatur schools will dismiss early at 12:15 p.m. today due to the playoff games.

MYERS LEAVING BRIDGEPORT – William Myers, executive director of the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation, has been named to a similar post in Denison. He has been Bridgeport’s EDC director since 2005.

WINTER WEATHER – The temperature had dropped to 32 degrees in Decatur as Update was going to press. Weather forecasters are predicting a cold and wet weekend. There is a 60 percent chance of rain today with a high of 34. There is a 50 percent chance of freezing rain tonight with a low around 31. Rain chances diminish tomorrow, but the chances of precipitation increase Sunday with an 80 percent chance of sleet during the day and a 70 percent chance of sleet and snow Sunday night. Temperatures are not expected to reach above the mid-30s for the entire weekend. Wise County is included in a winter storm watch area from Sunday morning to Monday morning, meaning there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Yesterday’s rainfall totals included 1 inch in Rhome, 0.6 in Greenwood, 0.45 in Alvord and 0.15 in Decatur.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Decatur High School Golf Booster Club tournament will be held Saturday at the Club at Runaway Bay. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

EAT WITH SANTA – Breakfast with Santa is 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Bridgeport Community Center. There will be photos with Santa and arts and crafts. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for kids at City Hall or at the door. For more information, call 940-683-3480.

CLOSING FOR LUNCH – City of Bridgeport offices and Library will be closed today from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. for the annual employee Thanksgiving luncheon. If you need immediate assistance call 940-683-3430.

TOY DRIVE – Jorge’s Mexican Restaurant in Paradise is collecting gifts to donate to foster children in Wise and Jack counties. Bring a new and unwrapped toy to the restaurant now through Dec. 8.

HOLIDAY STORE – The Wise Regional Hospital Auxiliary’s Annual Holiday Store is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Lunch will be served 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for $5. Meals will include a chili bowl or soup, chicken and dumplings, vegetable, crackers and cornbread, dessert and tea or coffee. Takeout is available. Order by phone at 214-707-7507. Shop for gifts and baked goods. Items include custom wreaths and centerpieces, decorative table runners and placemats and buffet scarves. Silent auction items are also available. Raffle tickets will be available.

STOCKINGS FOR SOLDIERS — Shear Madness, located at 1208 Farm Road 51 South in Decatur, is a drop off point for items being collected for North Texas Stockings for Soldiers. The stockings will be shipped to deployed soldiers and be personally distributed to all the inpatients at the Dallas VA Hospital. Items needed include body wash (small bottles), lotion, sunscreen, Chapstick, razors, baby wipes (small packages), non-melting candy, candy canes, cookies, jerky, crackers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sunglasses, playing cards, word search books, signed Christmas cards and powdered drink mixes. Food and drink items must be in individual wrappers. The deadline to return the items is Wednesday, Nov. 27.
