RUSHING RECEIVES 6 MONTHS FOR SOLICITATION – Former Boyd High School assistant coach and gym teacher Russell “Rusty” Rushing, 36, received a sentence of six months in state jail after reaching a plea deal with the district attorney’s office. Rushing pled guilty to one count of attempted online solicitation of a child. The victim was 15 at the time and one of his students. In testimony Tuesday, the victim said Rushing sent her text messages asking if he could “take her virginity.” The felony carried a possible sentence of two years probation to 10 years in prison. The jury trial started Tuesday but ended early Wednesday after attorneys on both sides reached a resolution for plea.

BOYD CLEAN-UP – The City of Boyd Annual Clean-up day is 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (or until bins are full) at the City’s Public Works Facility, 733 E. Rock Island Ave. Normal household trash will be accepted. Paint, batteries, tires and other “special disposable items” cannot be accepted. This service is available to all City of Boyd residents. A copy of a current city utility bill is required.

BARBECUE SUPPER – The Chico Community Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual barbecue supper at 4 p.m. Saturday at Chico City Hall, 400 South Hovey St. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12, and free for age 5 and younger. The meal includes sliced brisket, chicken or smoked sausage, cole slaw, potato salad, beans, dessert and tea. Entertainment will be provided by the Buckner Band. Proceeds will be used for maintenance and operation of the fire hall and vehicles. Whole smoked briskets will be available for $50. BAY WATERING RESTRICTIONS – Watering in Runaway Bay is now limited to Saturdays and Wednesdays before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.

J.W. HART PBR CHALLENGE – The J.W. Hart PBR Challenge is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Decatur. Tickets can be purchased at Wise Wireless in Decatur and at wcchallenger.org.

AUTOGRAPH DAY – Bull riders J.W. Hart, Ben Jones and Cord McCoy will sign autographs at the NRS Trailer grand opening 1 p.m. Saturday. The trailer dealership is at 155 CR 4228, just of U.S. 81/287 south of Decatur.

DANCE CAMPS – Register now for Princess and Rock Star Dance Camps, June 11-13. The camps are put on by Bridgeport Parks and Recreation and Miss Twister’s Dance Company. Ages 4-10 can participate. GOLF TOURNAMENT – Decatur Chamber of Commerce 25th Father’s Day Golf Tournament is Friday, June 14, at Decatur Golf Club. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9. Entry fee is $280 per four-person team and includes a goody bag for each player and lunch provided by PrimeWest Mortgage. Cash prizes will be awarded on designated holes for closest to the pin, hole-in-one and longest drive. KIDS FISHING DERBY – The annual Kids All-American Fishing Derby put on by the Decatur Rotary Club and the U.S. Forest Service is Saturday at Black Creek Lake on the LBJ National Grasslands. On site registration is at 7:30 a.m. Fishing is 8-11 a.m. with prizes awarded in three age groups 11:30 a.m. to noon. Free hot dogs and drinks will be served. This is a catch and release derby.
