RUSHING RECEIVES 6 MONTHS FOR SOLICITATION – Former Boyd High School assistant coach and gym teacher Russell “Rusty” Rushing, 36, received a sentence of six months in state jail after reaching a plea deal with the district attorney’s office. Rushing pled guilty to one count of attempted online solicitation of a child. The victim was 15 at the time and one of his students. In testimony Tuesday, the victim said Rushing sent her text messages asking if he could “take her virginity.” The felony carried a possible sentence of two years probation to 10 years in prison. The jury trial started Tuesday but ended early Wednesday after attorneys on both sides reached a resolution for plea.
BOYD CLEAN-UP – The City of Boyd Annual Clean-up day is 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (or until bins are full) at the City’s Public Works Facility, 733 E. Rock Island Ave. Normal household trash will be accepted. Paint, batteries, tires and other “special disposable items” cannot be accepted. This service is available to all City of Boyd residents. A copy of a current city utility bill is required.
BARBECUE SUPPER – The Chico Community Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual barbecue supper at 4 p.m. Saturday at Chico City Hall, 400 South Hovey St. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12, and free for age 5 and younger. The meal includes sliced brisket, chicken or smoked sausage, cole slaw, potato salad, beans, dessert and tea. Entertainment will be provided by the Buckner Band. Proceeds will be used for maintenance and operation of the fire hall and vehicles. Whole smoked briskets will be available for $50.
