ARREST MADE IN ‘PARKING LOT RAGE’ CASE – The Decatur High School student accused of plowing his pickup into the back of a car with students inside in the DHS parking lot last month has been arrested. Joshua Thomas Cummings, 17, of Decatur was arrested Tuesday and charged with criminal mischief $1,500-$20,000. According to information on the Wise County jail website, he posted bond the same day and was released. Witnesses said Cummings rammed into the other car because it had parked in a parking spot he wanted. The impact shoved the car completely over a curb and into a small tree.

RESTAURANT FIRE – A Decatur restaurant sustained minor damage yesterday when a fire apparently started on a cook top at China Palace Buffet. The fire was reported around 6 p.m. Decatur Fire Dept. Capt. Cliff Oates said the fire apparently started in the cooking area, and a vent hood system activated to contain the fire. Firefighters checked the attic space to make sure the fire had not spread and used fans to clear the building of smoke.

ADMINISTRATOR CHANGES AT DISD – A few administrative changes were announced at last night’s Decatur School Board meeting. Gabe Keese will move from assistant principal to principal at Young Elementary. Debbie Boatwright is moving from Young to be the director of the District Alternative Education Placement (DAEP). Lana Thompson will move from an assistant principal position at Rann Elementary to the same position at Young. Kristi Hankins will become assistant principal at Rann.

BUYING A BUS – At last night’s Decatur School Board meeting, the board approved the purchase of a bus using money from the current year’s budget. Trustees authorized Supt. Rod Townsend to spend up to $105,000 to purchase the bus. Next year’s budget is not expected to include money for a bus purchase. The money would be used from unspent funds and not fund balance.

WINE AND ART – Wise Regional Health Foundation’s An Evening Under the Stars wine-tasting and art show fundraiser is 6:30-8:30 tonight at the hospital’s east campus. There will be heavy appetizers, a chocolate fountain, live music, silent auction and the work of local artists. Cost is $55 a ticket or two for $100. Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the cardiac program. For tickets, call Michelle Stone at (940) 626-1384.

FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER - East Wise Fire and Rescue is having a fundraising event 2-8 p.m. tomorrow at New Fairview City Hall on Farm Road 407. There will be food, live music, fire trucks, a dunking booth, and fire and rescue demonstrations. Money raised will go toward the purchase of a new water tanker and building out their newest heavy brush fire truck.

FISHING DERBY – A kids fishing derby will be held at James Wood Motors in Decatur 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Scouts can earn their merit badges and belt loop awards at this fully stocked tank. The event will also feature free hot dogs and an autograph session with former Texas Rangers baseball player Pete O’Brien and members of the Texas Rangers Six Shooters 11 a.m.-noon. CHAMBER BOARD MEETING – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce will have their board meeting at noon today at George’s Mexican restaurant in Paradise. All board members should be present to discuss the garage sale.

BENEFIT CAR WASH – A car wash will be held 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturday at Family Dollar on U.S. 380 in Bridgeport. Proceeds will help fund a mission trip to Africa. For more information call Tamara at (940) 393-5881.

FUNERALS – Family visitation for Toni Gillin, 68, of Bridgeport is 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

NO SERVICE is scheduled for Don Thomas Behring, 61, of Chico. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Daisy Maxine Jinkens, 91, of Decatur is 2 p.m. today at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at Coker-Hawkins.

MEMORIAL service for Milt McConnell, 73, of Decatur is 1 p.m. today at the Decatur Civic Center. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Addiele Jennings, 84, of Boyd is pending at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

MEMORIAL service for Russell B. Wirtz, 73, of Boyd is 1 p.m. Saturday at Aurora Baptist Church. Christian-Hawkins is handling arrangements.
