COURT EMPLOYEE ARRESTED – Texas Ranger Jim Holland led a raid in Decatur early Friday that resulted in the arrest of 271st District Court Reporter Jeff Goodwyn, 56, of Decatur on charges of illegal drug possession. Sheriff David Walker said Goodwyn was arrested at 1:50 a.m. at a motel in Decatur after delivering illegal drugs to an undercover DPS agent. Following Goodwyn’s arrest officers searched his home and found drug paraphernalia in the basement of the house. Walker said affidavits for the warrants were signed by a district judge in Denton County. “There were no other arrests, but the investigation is continuing,” Walker said. In addition to the drugs, officers also confiscated several computers during the raid. In addition to Holland and other DPS officers, agents from the U.S. Secret Service and the Wise County sheriff’s office have been involved in the investigation which has been ongoing for several weeks, Walker said. The 2013 Wise County budget shows Goodwyn is paid $86,000 a year as court reporter in 271st District Court. Read more in the weekend Wise County Messenger.
WATER HOPES DASHED – The U.S. Supreme Court Thursday rejected Tarrant Regional Water District’s efforts to get water from Oklahoma by tapping river and creek flows before they hit Lake Texhoma. The case has been winding its way through the court system for several years with Tarrant Regional losing at every level. Many had hoped that if the water had become available it would have been stored in Lake Bridgeport helping keep the lake at a more constant level. Lake Bridgeport is now almost 20 feet below conservation level.
SLIDELL WRECK – Both lanes of Farm Road 51 were shut down for nearly an hour around 8:30 a.m. Thursday north of Slidell after a motorcycle slid off the road trying to avoid an oncoming 18-wheeler. Barbara Larock Schofield, 47, of Granbury clipped the bike of her riding partner, Larry Wynn of Weatherford, when Lynn slowed down in front of her. According to state trooper Jeff Johnson, Schofield lost control of her motorcycle when she hit the back of Wynn’s motorcycle and then came to a stop a few yards from the 18-wheeler. Jesse Shaffer, the driver of the oversize load hauling a nose section for a C-117, was attempting to pass a bridge in front of the two riders, where he was taking up both lanes of traffic. Schofield was transported to Denton Regional Hospital with a broken leg. Texas Department of Public Safety, Wise County Medics and Slidell-Greenwood Fire Department all responded to the wreck.

According to the tentative settlement, Fort Worth ISD must pay Palazzolo and his attorney $300,000 and give Palazzolo a job with the district as an educational logistics administrator. However, details of the settlement must first be approved by the Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees before it is finalized.
