When your 7-on-7 football season ends at the state tournament, it has to be considered a success.

The Boyd Yellowjackets wrapped up their season Friday morning, falling in the first round of the Division II consolation bracket, 34-7 to Carthage. The loss came at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander.

The Yellowjackets began the tournament Thursday in pool play against Bandera, Lorena and Midland Christian.

Bandera knocked off Boyd in their opening game, 39-20. Midland Christian took care of the Yellowjackets in their second contest, 27-7, and Lorena upended Boyd in their final tilt of the day, 35-26.

Midland Christian went on to take the top spot out of the pool, finishing with a 3-0 record.

Boyd qualified for the state tournament after making the semifinals of the Midwestern State qualifier June 1.

Another area team was set to begin its state tournament journey Friday afternoon. Northwest High School qualified in Division I, which is made up of Class 5A and 4A schools.

The Texans were to take on Houston Cy-Fair, Abilene Cooper and A&M Consolidated in pool play.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the championship bracket Saturday, while the bottom two teams will move on to the consolation bracket.
