Through two rounds of cold and windy conditions, the Bridgeport Sissies capped off their 2013 run in the state golf tournament with a 10th-place finish.
A two-day total of 859 left the Sissies tied with Cuero. Orangefield finished ninth with an 837. Andrews took the overall girls title with a 652.
“Coming down to Austin and playing for a state championship is something these girls will always remember,” Bridgeport coach Alan Green said. “We didn’t shoot as well as we had the last couple of tournaments, but we competed well and that is all you can ask.”
Bridgeport closed the second day with a 431 under much better conditions than they faced Thursday morning.
Temperatures dropped and a gusty north wind welcomed players to the links in the first round. The conditions did not improve as the day went on.
The weather was better Friday, but high winds continued to plague the players.
“It was 90 degrees and sunny on Wednesday, then by Thursday it was real windy and cold,” senior Tiffany Hawkins said. “It was tough to make the adjustment.”
