The Northwest Texans got an early lead Friday and went on to beat Southlake Carroll, 52-45.
“We dictated the tempo of the game and we did a great job defensively,” said Northwest coach Mike Hatch. “Our kids did a good job shooting the ball, and making free throws down the stretch.”
The Texans (15-8, 6-3) struggled from the charity stripe the first three quarters, but went 6 for 9 in the final quarter.
The last time the Texans faced the Dragons (13-10, 5-4), they walked away with a loss. This game was a pivotal win in District 4-5A, putting the Texans in third place.
Northwest increased their lead each quarter, not allowing the Dragons to rally back.
Josh Tatum lead with 12 points. David Ogunwolu and Casey Jimison each added ten points.
“We’re a very unselfish team and it comes from whatever Josh can get,” Hatch said. “Defense dictates what he does and he does a great job reading the defense.”
The Texans will host Richland Friday.
