After missing over half the basketball season due to injury, Boyd’s Shae Williams will soon be getting back on the court.
The senior signed a letter of intent on Thursday to play at McPherson College in Kansas.
“It’s a dream come true,” Williams said. “I’ve been wanting to play college basketball since fifth grade.”
Williams went down with a torn ACL in December and has had a long road back to recovery. She is still two weeks away from getting her full release.
“It’s feeling good,” Williams said of the knee. “I’m running and shooting a little bit. I’m pushing myself, but not too far.”
She has spent countless hours in the training room over the past few months to get back to this point.
“Her rehab has gone well,” Boyd coach Lynn Cranfill said. “Our trainer worked with her every day, and that is what it took because it was bad.”
McPherson has been interested in Williams since watching her play last summer. After sending them some film this year, Cranfill said talks really started heating up around February.
“After seeing some film on her, they’ve been real excited,” Cranfill said. “Finally things got worked out. We are real happy for her.”
Williams will be cleared to play June 27 and is planning on playing in a tournament in Georgetown June 29.
