The final game of the season slipped away from the Paradise Panthers Friday night.

The Ponder Lions (3-7, 1-5) rallied in the third quarter with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to edge Paradise (1-9, 1-5) by a score of 22-19.

Paradise dominated the numbers game, securing 25 first downs to Ponder’s 10 and getting 150 more total yards than the Lions. The Panthers just couldn’t turn those good numbers into touchdowns.

Ponder started strong with 70-yard run by Trey Dunlap in the first minute-and-a-half. Paradise answered when Dillon Meadows hit Cash Preather for a 43-yard touchdown pass to tie the game.

Ponder’s Brady Anderson ran in the final touchdown of the first quarter to give the Lions a 14-7 lead over Paradise.

The Panthers took over in the second quarter, stopping Ponder in their tracks. A nice offensive series led to Austin Hogan running in the Panthers’ last two touchdowns.

But a failed kick and two-point conversion attempt by Paradise meant the Panthers’ lead was only five points, 19-14, setting them up for heartbreak.

A Paradise field goal attempt three seconds before halftime came up short.

The Lions scored one last time in the third quarter to secure the three-point victory.
