Bridgeport High School junior Payton Pierce will compete at POWRI’s “Battle at the Center” in DuQuoin, Ill., Dec. 7.
The event will kick off the Bryan Clauson Racing’s Driven Driver Development Program. Clausen created the program after one of the most successful years in USAC history.
“It has always been a goal of mine to build our program to the point that we could take our knowledge and develop the next generation of race-car drivers,” Clausen said.
“We have spent the past several years building our program and database to a point that we feel we can offer young drivers the opportunity to learn and excel in an environment that gets the most out of their driving ability,” he explained.
The program will be led by USAC winning crew chief “Big Al” Scroggins and will compete in POWRI and USAC, sanctioned races throughout the 2014 season.
Pierce, who is in his rookie season, picked up feature wins in sprint-car competition in Texas. He will be joined by another young gun, Spencer Bayston.
Bayston is coming off a dominating year in the Mel Kenyon Midget Championship.
“I’m honored and blessed to have the opportunity to drive a top-notch car at this event,” Pierce said. “Duquoin is a place like many indoor bullrings, where being smooth and staying out of trouble is half the battle. I’m really excited to be surrounded by so much experience.
“As a young driver trying to develop and having a guy like Bryan to lean on only quickens my learning curve to becoming a better driver. Hopefully we can go out and have a solid run to build on into the future.”
