The Paradise Panthers are looking for a fresh start when they open district play against Whitesboro Friday.
For the second straight season, the Panthers went through their pre-district schedule without notching a win. They will try to get things back on the right track this week.
Paradise (0-5, 0-0) travels to Whitesboro (4-1, 1-0) Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Panthers enjoyed a bye last week after losing to Krum the week before.
“Things went well,” Paradise head coach Scott Broussard said about the break. “We went back and worked on some fundamentals and polished some things.”
Five turnovers cost the Panthers in their 27-7 loss to Krum. That was one of the main areas of focus the last two weeks.
“We’ve still got to take better care of the football,” Broussard said. “We keep shooting ourselves in the foot.”
Paradise drew the first bye week in District 5-2A Division I. Whitesboro was busy shutting out Ponder in their league opener last week, 49-0.
The Bearcats’ lone loss came to Frisco Lone Star, 48-21.
“They are a real good team and it’s going to be a big challenge for us,” Broussard said. “They like to control the ball with their big offensive line.”
Collin Kilcrease and Cody Ford lead the Bearcat backfield, combining for 632 yards rushing and nine touchdowns.
“The season starts for real this week,” Broussard said. “These district games count, and this will be a good measuring stick for us.”
