For the third straight week, the Paradise Panthers will be on the road. This time they will at least enjoy a neutral-site game in Denton.
Paradise (0-2) takes on the Leonard Tigers (1-1) Thursday at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers are coming off a 22-6 loss to Henrietta, and look to build off some positive signs.
“We saw some improvement and did some things better,” head coach Scott Broussard said. “We’ve got to cut down on the penalties and start taking advantage of some opportunities.”
The Panthers are still looking for ways to open up the offense. Paradise only totaled 85 yard of offense against Henrietta, 81 of which came on the ground.
“We’ve got to move the ball better,” Broussard said. “We continue to work on the passing game. Teams are loading the box against us, so we’ve got to be able to throw the ball downfield.”
Paradise will need the offense to come together this week with a run-oriented Leonard on the schedule. The Tigers like to keep the ball away from their opponent, and Broussard knows he needs to turn the tables.
“Leonard is a run-heavy team,” Broussard said. “Their tailback has good quickness and is tough to bring down in space.”
The Tigers are coming off a 42-0 win over Honey Grove. They edged Paradise last season 33-29.
Although they have one less day to get ready, Broussard likes the chance for his kids to play at a bigger venue.
“It’s a neat opportunity,” he said. “It gives the kids a taste of what it’s like if we have success.”
