Alvord’s Bulldogs found themselves on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs are concerned thanks to a 38-35 loss at the hands of the Mustangs from City View. Alvord won the statistical battle but still came up short on the scoreboard thanks mainly to the foot of kicker Ethan Raber who was a perfect five of five on extra points and kicked a 41-yard field goal as well that wound up being the difference in the ballgame.

The first score of the game came on one of Cassidy Patterson’s five touchdown passes for the night when he hit Joe Randall for a 39 yarder. Jose Luna’s first of five consecutive PAT kicks (he was perfect on the night in that department as well) gave the ‘Dogs a 7-0 led at the 3:41 mark of the first quarter. City View would even the count as time ran out in the first with a DJ Coursey nine yard run and the conversion kick. All of Alvord’s touchdowns came via passing and all but one of City View’s came on the ground.

The Mustang’s scored first in the second period on a Ryan Karr 29-yard run but Alvord would own a 21-14 lead at intermission thanks to a Patterson to Brett Martin 28-yard pass followed by another Patterson 14-yard connection, this time with Heath Walker on the receiving end.

City View did all the scoring in the third as Karr broke for a 66-yard score and Raber would add his field goal of 41 yards for a 24-21 edge entering the fourth.

The Mustangs edged ten points ahead with 10:40 left in the game when Coursey hauled in a 30-yard scoring heave from Karr.

The Bulldogs narrowed it back down to three points with a Patterson to Randall 57-yard strike at 9:29. The teams would then swap punts and turnovers until City View scored on a Coursey 50-yard run with only 1:51 remaining. Alvord answered 20 seconds later when Randall ran under a 38-yard Patterson throw to close the scoring.

The Bulldogs would get the ball back again with under a minute to go but could not manage another score.

Randall led all rushers and receivers with 151 yards through the air on 6 catches and 96 on the ground on 19 carries. Patterson would total five touchdowns and 347 yards passing on a 22-of-37 night with 2 interceptions.
