Decatur senior quarterback Grayson Muehlstein was recently awarded the Class 3A “Player of the Week” by Ford Motor Company and Karl Klement Ford for his performance in the Eagles’ regular-season finale, a 56-53 win over Sanger.
The TCU commit completed 24 of 35 passes for 399 yards and six touchdowns, all to teammate Cain Lowe. He also rushed for 109 yards. The last score put the Eagles ahead for good with 42 seconds left.
“Grayson and Cain had a little chemistry going,” Decatur head coach Kyle Story said. “Grayson looks the part of a quarterback. He’s deceptively fast for his size, possesses a strong arm and can make all the throws.
“His work ethic is second to none; he even practices at full speed.”
Student athletes recognized by Ford and Texas Ford Dealers as “Players of the Week” must have excelled in three categories: individual statistical performance on the field, contributions to the team’s success through individual leadership abilities, and performance off the field including academic success and good community citizenship.
Muehlstein is a straight A student, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a teacher’s aide.
