McCann cruises to district title

Northwest High School’s Kellee McCann destroyed the field at the District 4-5A cross country meet Thursday.

McCann’s first-place time of 18:17 was 38 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Southlake Carroll’s Samantha Young took second with a time of 18:55.

The Lady Texans took third overall with 82 points and will advance to the Region I Meet in Lubbock Saturday.

Carroll claimed the first overall spot after their top five runners all finished in the top seven. The Lady Dragons had 21 points while Timber Creek was second with 56.

Northwest’s Sydney Benes finished 15th in 20:18 and Deserae Kirkland secured 20th with a time of 20:36.

Baylee Nelson ran 20:48 for 22nd and Rebekah Christman was the fifth Lady Texan to cross the finish line, taking 24th with a time of 20:56.

Ivy Diefenback was 30th in 21:25.

The Northwest boys finished fourth with 104 points. Southlake Carroll took the top spot with 38.

Zach Kirkland led the way for the Texans with a seventh-place finish in 15:48. He will advance to the regional meet at Lubbock.

Jacob Suchors clocked a 16:45 for 18th and Trevor Bohr claimed 22nd in 17:01. David Flanagin took 24th in 17:13. Jackson Miller was the fifth Texan to cross the finish line, taking 33rd with a time of 18:01.

Jeremiah Baugh was 43rd in 18:43 and Ismael Munoz secured 44th with a time of 18:45.
